DHL invests in Asia and Europe
25.03.2009, 01:21
Despite the global recession, DHL is spending millions on a new facility in Thailand and new mail-sorting equipment in Europe.

DHL and Makro to build US$4.6m facility in Thailand

DHL Supply Chain is extending its five-year partnership with wholesaler & retailer, Makro, with the building of a new US$4.6 million automated warehouse in Wang Noi on the northern outskirts of Bangkok.

The 14,500 m2 warehouse has a handling capacity of more eighty million cases a year, and offers a six-hour lead time from receipt of supplier's goods at the warehouse to delivery to retail stores in Bangkok - an efficiency improvement of up to 50%.

The facility features an advanced Autosort system that can handle more than 9,000 cases per hour. Other key automated features of the facility include high-speed belt conveyer inductions, camera scanners, chute sorter, and real-time monitoring system.

DHL Supply Chain has provided Makro with warehousing and logistics services in Thailand since 2004, and currently handles two distribution warehouses for Makro's ambient and fresh products at Klong Luang, and Wang Noi respectively.

Scheduled to begin operations in July, the new facility will replace the dry food warehouse at Klong Luang.

Deutsche Post invests €420 million in the mail business

Deutsche Post has ordered €420 million worth of new generation of mail sorting machines, and by 2012, Siemens will supply a total of 288 sorting machines for standard and compact letters and up to 97 sorting systems for large and maxi letters.

According to Jürgen Gerdes, Deutsche Post DHL board member for MAIL, this is the biggest investment in new mail technology since the construction of the mail sorting centres in the mid-nineties.
The new machines, which require 22% less electricity, will enable Deutsche Post to increase mail processing speed and accuracy, and reduce its annual CO2 emissions by almost 5,000 tons.

You actually make it apeapr really easy along with your presentation however I in finding this matter to be actually something that I think I might never understand. It sort of feels too complex and very broad for me. I am taking a look ahead on your subsequent post, I will attempt to get the hold of it!
